Watching Him

WATCHING HIM SO HUMBLE AND SCARED,
THE TIME IN LIFE HE HAD OFTEN FEARED.
HE STRUGGLES TO RECALL SOME DATES,
AND FOR HIS WIFE HE WATCHES AND WAITS.

TREMBLING FRAGILE ONCE STRONG HAND,
WITHERED WITH TIME HE CAN’T UNDERSTAND.
ATTEMPTS SLEEP CAN’T ERASE THE SIGHT,
OF WORLD WAR II HOW SOME LOST THE FIGHT.

SOMETHING’S WRONG WITH HIS MEMORY,
FRIGHTENED YET TRIES TO HIDE IT FROM ME.
SINKING SHIPS ETCHED EXTREMELY DEEP,
IMAGES THAT PROHIBIT HIS SLEEP.

OLD AND LOST IS ALL SOME CAN SEE,
HE IS SO MUCH MORE THAN THAT TO ME.

HE IS …

A SCHOLAR FROM PENNSYLVANIA U,
HE LOVES ART HE’S A WRITER TOO.
SENTIMENTAL HIS EYES GET MISTY,
WHEN SHARING HIS LIFE MEMORIES WITH ME.

OFFICER ASLEEP ON A BUNK,
ONCE SAVED HIS MEN WHEN HIS SISTER SHIP SUNK.
A FATHER PROUD OF HIS TWO BOYS,
ON CHRISTMAS EVE ASSEMBLING TOYS.

DESIGNER IN GREAT DEMAND,
DRAWING NOTED ADS WITH HIS STEADY HAND.
PROTECTOR OF HIS WIFE AND KIDS,
KISSING BOO BOOS OPENING TIGHT LIDS.

ROMANTIC PROPOSING ON LEAVE,
GLANCE AGAIN IT IS THAT HARD TO CONCEIVE?
WITH YOUR HEART LOOK AND SEE,
DEEP INTO HIS EYES WHAT HE IS TO ME.
